(He/Him/His)
Greetings! My name is Joabe (pronounced Jobe), I am a Doctoral Extern completing my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) at Roosevelt University. I’ve trained in a range of clinical settings, including university counseling and outpatient clinics. I provide individual therapy and psychological assessment services, working with people wherever they are in life. I strive to create a space where people feel seen and genuinely heard. I strongly believe that therapy is not about fixing people, it is about walking alongside as people navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and move towards living a purpose-driven life. I incorporate a person-centered lens, and my therapeutic style involves being authentic, honest, and collaborative, where people are challenged to thrive and grow. I work with a variety of concerns, often with individuals navigating life transitions or feeling stuck. Having once been socially awkward myself (and now awkwardly social), I have an appreciation for those who feel out of place or disconnected. Everyone, no matter how independent or extroverted, can benefit from meaningful human connection. In addition to clinical work, I teach psychology courses at the university level and bring that same intentionality into the therapy room, offering a space where clients feel engaged and challenged as they move towards clarity. Outside of work, I like travelling and running. I’ve been to 50 U.S. states and am on a personal mission to run every street in the city of Chicago, an experience that shapes my belief in grit, persistence, curiosity, and the power of taking things one step at a time.
